Eswatini Swazi Kitchen, Swaziland
Eswatini Swazi Kitchen is a fair trade producer of natural gourmet food established in 1991 in Swaziland by Manzini Youth Care, a NGO supporting marginalized youth in the country.
Eswatini Swazi Kitchen generates employment for women who make jams, chutneys, and marmalades through a combination of traditional methods and recipes with modern equipment to ensure top quality. What started as a small project to generate funds for the Manzani Youth Care social programs soon became a thriving business that is enhancing the lives of underprivileged communities in Swaziland. Manzani Youth Care provides housing, food and education at several centers to former street children, many of whom are HIV/AIDS orphans.
Fresh vegetables and fruit used in the preparation of these tasty foods are bought from more than 100 local farmers at fair prices. Consumers who spread Eswatini Kitchen’s jams, jellies and chutnies on their toast in the morning make an immediate connection with a network of several hundred Swazi men, women, and youth, including the women who work full-time in the kitchen, the Swazi farmers who grow the fruit, and the hundreds of children receiving care at the youth centers.
